The E3 2013 gaming convention in Los Angeles is this week’s highlight of gaming world. Ubisoft has just announced a new franchise for the driving/racing genre, The Crew.
The Crew revolves around having a team of 4 drivers band together to accomplish specific missions set in various cities across the United States. The game will feature seamless integration between singleplayer and multiplayer, allowing players to jump in and out of races and missions with friends. Ubisoft is calling this a next-gen game due to its heavy emphasis on playing with friends and being able to go online seamlessly.
In addition, The Crew will support asynchronous multiplayer, which allows players to race against friends at different times and eliminates the need for everyone to be online at the same time (the game ‘memorizes’ the path taken by each player and displays semi-transparent ghost cars of offline players).
The Crew will offer plenty of vehicles to choose from and plenty of upgrades for them. There will also be lots of terrain, including sidewalks, brick roads in parks, sand and foliage; each terrain has different effects on different vehicles (with trucks and cars upgraded with off-road kits evidently being more suited for off-road driving).
The Crew is being developed by Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections and is due in early 2014. It is likely the game will be released, at the very least, for the 3 main gaming platforms: Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
