Sony has just launched a new video talking about the features of the DualShock 4 controller for the upcoming PlayStation 4 console they are launching this year. The 2-and-a-half minute video shows Nicolas Doucet and Toshimasa Aoki, producer and product planner respectively for Sony Computer Entertainment along with Scott Rohde, Senior VP of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, discussing the key features of the DualShock 4 controller.
The DualShock 4 controller was designed with feedback from game developers improve on the previous-generation DualShock 3 controller. Many big names including Naughty Dog, the studio behind PlayStation-exclusive series Uncharted and upcoming The Last of Us, were consulted for their input and the DualShock 4 controller is said to have a fine-tuned feel of its shape and analog sticks.
The other key features talked about in the video include the DualShock 4’s touchpad which can be used easily with any of your fingers, lightbar used for motion tracking and new Share button which allows easily recording and sharing of in-game moments. The built-in speaker on the DualShock 4 is also mentioned, which comes as a surprise since little focus has been placed on it since the PlayStation 4 announcement, and will provide supplementary audio to enhance immersion.
The PlayStation 4 is slated for release at the end of 2013 and so far, it remains a mystery what the actual console will look like.
