Will we see Battlefield 4 at future tournaments and competitive gaming leagues? There seems to be a hint of it as an interview with DICE general manager, Karl Magnus Troedsson, mentions Electronic Arts is ‘very interested’ in eSports in relation to Battlefield 4 when the game was announced at GDC 2013 last week. During the interview, Troedsson glossed over several aspects about Battlefield 4, including its multiplayer component as he called it “a very competitive part of the game … (multiplayer) is the heart of any Battlefield game … that won’t change moving forward”.
He said his discussion was limited in scope due to his inability to delve deeper into specifics, but “eSports is an area that we are very interested in”. It’s an interesting story to follow because we might eventually see a Battlefield game enter the competitive FPS arena for the first time, after years of the competitive scene being dominated by Call of Duty and Counter-Strike. We’ll bring you the latest news as it happens. Battlefield 4 is said to be coming later this year, with a rumored October 29 release for Xbox 360, though specific launch dates have not been officially confirmed by EA.
