Not a few hours ago, Assassin’s Creed 4 was barely announced with some screenshots and there’s already talk of what may be coming to future Assassin’s Creed games after 2013. Ubisoft’s Ashraf Ismail, who is also the Game Director for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was recently interviewed by game website IGN. One of the questions he was asked was about regarding the gender of the main character and why the last four games (with Altair and Ezio) and the upcoming one with Captain Edward Kenway all have male lead roles.
Ismail explains that the decision to tell the story of the three generations from the Kenway family, Edward, Haytham and Connor, was decided “really early on… actually years ago”. For this upcoming game, a female lead protagonist wasn’t used because “from the pirate perspective, there were a few famous women pirates. But it wasn’t common”. However, he follows up with a comment about future games beyond this year’s Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, that “it wouldn’t be surprising to see a female assassin coming up in a mainline Assassin’s Creed”.
This hints to us that Ubisoft may know something that we all don’t, seeing it was mentioned the story revolving around the Kenways was planned years ahead, it will not be a surprise if a plot revolving around a female assassin as the main character… for maybe Assassin’s Creed 5: Not Just a Pretty Lass… may be in the works now.
