Dead Island: Riptide absent from Wii U due to engine rewrite needed

Dead Island: Riptide is a zombie-filled game with an open world that lands next month. In a recent interview with Digital Spy, creative producer of Deep Silver, Alexander Toplansky has cited that the game will not make an appearance on the Wii U platform due to the rework needed to port the engine to Nintendo’s console platform.

He says there has been improvements done to the game engine and neither a full rewrite (which is typically a time-consuming thing for developers to do) nor a port of the engine to Wii U was a “satisfactory outcome… so we decided to do what we got platform-wise and just make sure that we can deliver the best experience we can” There are also presently no plans to bring the game over to Nintendo’s platform in the future.

Dead Island: Riptide will be released on April 23, 2013 for Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
