New Call of Duty title announced for late 2013, possibly Modern Warfare 4

During their Q4 financial call, Activision Blizzard confirmed that a new Call of Duty installment is currently in development for the blockbuster franchise’s year-over-year continuity. The 2013 game is likely to be a Modern Warfare sequel, although the fate of the characters have remained largely ambiguous after how Modern Warfare 3 ended with a big bang.

CEO Eric Hirshberg broke the news by saying, “The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect a new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher. There is increased volatility this year due to the ongoing console transition, which makes predicting the future more challenging than during normal uses in the cycle. For Call of Duty, consistent with our past practices, we are planning for the main line release in Q4 to be down versus 2012.”

Similar to its previous games, the 2013 title will probably drop in early November, along with more details on the story arc and gameplay during the E3 event this year. A new main protagonist is expected to star in this year’s game, while the whereabouts of Captain Price still remain unknown…
