Michael Lesslie will embark on his Hollywood maiden voyage as he is confirmed to be penning the script for the Assassin’s Creed film adaptation. The relatively unknown British writer wrote Prince of Denmark, a play which was performed at the National Theatre in London last year, and the screenplay for the short film Skirts and Heavy Metal Drummer.
The New Regency and Ubisoft collaboration is set to star Michael Fassbender, of Prometheus and X-Men: First Class fame, as the lead role. The story follows Desmond Miles, a bartender who is kidnapped by a secret Templar corporation called Abstergo Industries and then tasked with finding ancient artifacts by reliving his (lethal assassin) ancestor’s memories via a futuristic time machine dubbed the Animus.
The companies are still looking to secure a director and other cast members to the project. At the rate they’re going, a 2014 release for this film is looking more and more likely, but how the movie turns out is a whole different story. On a side note, I wonder what the Animus will look like.
