Valve and Plantronics release Portal, TF2, CS:GO and Dota 2 branded GameCom gaming headphones

Over the weekends, Valve quietly partnered with gaming hardware maker Plantronics to release two of their GameCom gaming headsets, each with 4 different Valve-branded flavors. Aside from the Valve game branding on the headband (where you can choose between Aperture Science, Dota 2, Mann Co. and Counter-Strike branding), these headphones are the same as Plantronics’ regular non-special edition GameCom 780 and GameCom Commander headsets.

The more affordable Plantronics GameCom 780 has 40 mm sound drivers, virtual 7.1 Dolby surround sound, a swing-up noise-cancelling microphone piece, buttons on the earcup for volume adjustment and toggling mute and connects to your gaming machine using USB. The Valve branded headset comes in at a retail price of $79.99 (though it’s currently on sale), which comes at a premium over the regular base model that Plantronics sells on their own.

The higher end Plantronics GameCom Commander gaming headset also sports virtual 7.1 Dolby surround sound and earcup buttons for volume and mute but comes with a lot more accessories (a travel case, inline control piece with dedicated controls for volume and mute, adapters to connect to regular 3.5 mm headphone ports or via USB and ‘quick disconnect’ adapters for quick switching between playback devices). It’s also built differently from its cheaper breathen – its bulkier design makes it more rugged and isolates noise better and the microphone sits on a flexible joint. The retail price for the Valve special editions are $299.99 (meaning there’s no premium over Plantronics regular versions), and the current 5% discount on Valve’s Store makes them cheaper than the regular versions!

The limited edition Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: GO and Dota 2 gaming headphones by Plantronics are available either directly from the Valve Store linked above or Plantronics website section dedicated to Valve.
