Activision is only this close to setting a major record as the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the latest Call of Duty game. The publisher announced that Black Ops 2 earned a whopping $500 million in just 24 hours, exceeding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s already-impressive sales of $400 million.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick boasts, “With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row. Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Star Wars,’ the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was released on Tuesday for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows.
